Pakistan, UN Women Agree to Strengthen Cooperation on Women’s Rights
Islamabad, July 21:Pakistan and UN Women have agreed to further strengthen their longstanding partnership to advance women’s rights, promote gender equality, and empower women and girls through enhanced collaboration and policy support.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Federal Minister for Law, Justice and Human Rights Senator Azam Nazeer Tarar and Mohammad Naciri, Chief of Staff to the Executive Director of UN Women, in Islamabad.
The minister appreciated UN Women’s continued support for Pakistan and highlighted the Ministry of Human Rights’ close cooperation with the organization in promoting gender equality, expanding access to justice, and developing policies aimed at protecting the rights of women and girls.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to women’s empowerment, Senator Tarar said Pakistan is finalizing a comprehensive national policy framework to strengthen prevention, protection, and response mechanisms for women and girls.
The two sides also discussed the upcoming SAARC Conference, describing it as an important regional platform to enhance cooperation on gender equality, women’s rights, and inclusive development across South Asia.
