Pakistan Urges Full Implementation of UN Security Council Resolution 2803 to Secure Gaza Ceasefire and Advance Palestinian Statehood
Islamabad, July 29:Pakistan has called for the full implementation of United Nations Security Council Resolution 2803, urging the international community to ensure an enduring ceasefire in Gaza, unrestricted humanitarian assistance, and a credible, time-bound political process leading to an independent Palestinian state. Speaking during the UN Security Council’s quarterly debate on the Middle East, Pakistan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Ambassador Asim Iftikhar Ahmad, stressed that the commitments outlined in the resolution and the broader peace framework must be translated into concrete action to prevent further deterioration of the humanitarian and security situation.
Addressing the 15-member Security Council, Ambassador Asim said that while the 2025 ceasefire and the peace framework had created an opportunity to reduce civilian suffering and revive prospects for Palestinian self-determination, delays in implementation continued to undermine efforts for a durable and just peace. He warned that failure to uphold international commitments could seriously damage the credibility of the peace process and diminish hopes for a two-state solution.
The Pakistani envoy expressed deep concern over continued Israeli settlement expansion, the establishment of new settlement outposts, and increasing settler violence in the Occupied Palestinian Territory. He noted that such actions alter the demographic and geographic realities on the ground, making the establishment of a viable and contiguous Palestinian state increasingly difficult. Referring to the proposed “Crimson Thread” infrastructure project, he said it would further isolate Palestinian communities and fragment the occupied West Bank.
Highlighting the humanitarian crisis in Gaza, Ambassador Asim noted that despite some improvements following the ceasefire, nearly two million Palestinians remain confined to a limited portion of the territory under extremely difficult conditions, while a majority of the population continues to face severe food insecurity. Reaffirming Pakistan’s longstanding support for the Palestinian cause, he called for immediate humanitarian access, strict adherence to international law, and renewed international efforts to achieve a comprehensive, just, and lasting peace based on the two-state solution.
