Pakistan, Saudi Arabia strengthen cooperation in power sector

Riyadh, July 13: Pakistan and Saudi Arabia have reaffirmed their commitment to expanding bilateral cooperation in the energy sector, with a particular focus on power sector reforms, investment, and technological collaboration.

A high-level Pakistani delegation, led by Minister for Energy (Power Division) Sardar Awais Ahmad Khan Leghari, held a meeting with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia’s Energy Working Group in Riyadh to discuss opportunities for strengthening cooperation and promoting sustainable energy development.

During the meeting, Minister Leghari highlighted Pakistan’s ongoing power sector reform programme aimed at improving operational efficiency, enhancing institutional governance, accelerating digital transformation, and ensuring the financial sustainability of the sector. He said the government is creating a conducive environment for private sector participation and foreign investment, particularly in power transmission infrastructure, grid modernization, and smart utility technologies to meet the country’s growing electricity demand and facilitate the integration of renewable energy.

Reaffirming the longstanding brotherly relations between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia, the minister invited the Saudi Energy Working Group to visit Pakistan to gain first-hand insight into the country’s reform initiatives and explore investment opportunities in transmission networks, digitalization, and modern power infrastructure. He assured the Saudi side of the government’s full support and facilitation for investors.

Both sides expressed satisfaction over the progress of bilateral cooperation and agreed to maintain close coordination to translate discussions into practical partnerships. They reaffirmed their shared commitment to promoting energy security, sustainable economic growth, and regional cooperation through a resilient and technology-driven energy sector.
