Logistics, Port Connectivity Around Port Qasim Strengthened
Islamabad, July 19:The government has intensified efforts to modernize Pakistan’s maritime logistics system by strengthening port connectivity around Port Qasim under the Prime Minister’s Maritime Reforms Task Force. The initiative aims to improve cargo movement, upgrade infrastructure, and enhance the efficiency of the country’s trade and transport network.
A key achievement under the reforms is the completion of the Karachi Port–Pipri Railway Link restoration project, carried out on the directives of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif. Restored through the collaboration of the National Logistics Corporation (NLC) and Pakistan Railways, the railway link will improve cargo transportation between Karachi’s ports and inland destinations, reducing transit time and logistics costs.
The government is also developing a multimodal logistics network connecting Karachi Port, Port Qasim, and the Pipri Railway Yard through integrated barge, road, and rail transport to streamline freight movement and strengthen supply chains.
Under the National Dredging Plan, dredging at Port Qasim has been completed, while work to enhance dredging capacity at other ports is progressing to ensure efficient maritime operations. In addition, infrastructure development in Port Qasim’s industrial zone has been accelerated, alongside enhanced monitoring and third-party audits.
The establishment of logistics parks, warehousing facilities, and value-added services is expected to modernize port operations, support industrial growth, facilitate imports and exports, and reinforce Pakistan’s trade and logistics infrastructure.
