Pakistan, Kazakhstan to Establish Joint Research Centre for Academic, Scientific Collaboration
Almaty, Kazakhstan, July 26:Pakistan and Kazakhstan have agreed to establish the Kazakhstan–Pakistan Research Centre at Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, marking a significant step towards expanding bilateral cooperation in higher education, scientific research, innovation and emerging technologies.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Pakistan’s Minister of State for Federal Education and Professional Training, Ms. Wajiha Qamar, and the Chairman of the Management Board and Rector of Al-Farabi Kazakh National University, Professor Zhanseit Tuimebayev, during the Minister’s official visit to Kazakhstan.
The proposed Research Centre will be established under a Memorandum of Cooperation and will serve as a dedicated platform to promote joint research, academic exchanges, faculty and student mobility, scientific training and institutional partnerships between the two countries.
Speaking on the occasion, Ms. Wajiha Qamar commended Al-Farabi Kazakh National University’s international reputation for academic excellence and research achievements. She reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to strengthening cooperation with Kazakhstan in higher education, science, technology and innovation, stressing that closer academic partnerships are essential for addressing common regional and global challenges through knowledge-sharing and collaborative research.
The Minister highlighted the rapid advancements being made by Pakistani universities in artificial intelligence, information technology, digital innovation and other emerging technologies. She said these developments provide promising opportunities for collaborative research, innovation and the exchange of expertise with Al-Farabi Kazakh National University. She expressed confidence that the establishment of the Kazakhstan–Pakistan Research Centre would usher in a new era of educational and scientific collaboration between the two countries.
Ms. Qamar also invited the university’s leadership and faculty to visit Pakistan to explore partnerships with leading Pakistani universities, expand joint research initiatives, organise academic exchanges and strengthen cooperation in scientific training and innovation.
Professor Tuimebayev welcomed the initiative, noting that Al-Farabi Kazakh National University has already been actively engaging with Pakistani higher education institutions through academic mobility programmes, joint research projects, international conferences and institutional collaboration. He said the new Research Centre would provide a sustainable platform for long-term scientific cooperation, deeper academic engagement and stronger people-to-people ties between Pakistan and Kazakhstan.
