Pakistan, Iran reaffirm commitment to stronger disaster risk reduction cooperation
Islamabad, July 23:Pakistan and Iran have reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening bilateral cooperation in disaster risk reduction, early warning systems, and climate resilience during a visit by Iranian Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni to the National Emergencies Operation Center (NEOC) of the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) in Islamabad. Minister of State for Interior Talal Chaudhry accompanied the visiting delegation.
Chairman NDMA Lieutenant General Inam Haider Malik welcomed the delegation and briefed them on Pakistan’s modern disaster management framework, including advanced early warning mechanisms, emergency preparedness, institutional coordination, and the operational capabilities of the National Emergencies Operation Center. The delegation also received a comprehensive overview of disaster and climate-related risks facing Pakistan and the wider region in 2026, along with the efficient utilization of national resources during emergency response.
Speaking on the occasion, the NDMA Chairman stressed the importance of expanding cooperation between Pakistan and Iran through the exchange of expertise, technological innovation, and best practices in disaster management. He emphasized that stronger regional coordination is essential to effectively address the growing challenges posed by climate change and natural disasters.
The Iranian delegation praised Pakistan’s technology-driven disaster management system, describing the National Emergencies Operation Center as a model of modern emergency preparedness. Interior Minister Eskandar Momeni commended NDMA’s achievements in disaster preparedness, risk assessment, and emergency response, expressing Iran’s strong interest in learning from Pakistan’s experience in early warning systems, proactive disaster risk management, and the application of advanced technologies.
Both sides agreed that enhanced institutional collaboration, capacity building, and regular knowledge-sharing would strengthen regional resilience and improve collective preparedness to respond effectively to future natural disasters and climate-related emergencies.
