Pakistan Will Safeguard Its Water Rights Under Indus Waters Treaty: Tarar
Islamabad, July 6: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting Attaullah Tarar has reaffirmed Pakistan’s unwavering commitment to protecting its water rights under the Indus Waters Treaty (IWT), describing them as an inalienable entitlement and a lifeline for the country’s people and economy.
In a post on X, Tarar said Pakistan would continue to defend its legitimate rights under the treaty, emphasizing that the country’s share of water resources cannot be compromised.
Rejecting India’s unilateral attempt to place the Indus Waters Treaty in abeyance, the minister said the move has neither legal validity nor moral justification under international law. He added that the attempt has only resulted in diplomatic embarrassment for India.
Tarar further stated that India’s actions contradict the “One Water, One Vision” principle endorsed by the United Nations, stressing that transboundary water resources should be managed through cooperation, mutual respect, and adherence to international agreements.
He reiterated that Pakistan remains committed to safeguarding its water rights while upholding the principles of international law and treaty obligations.
