Finance Minister, New UK Envoy Discuss Expanding Pakistan-UK Economic Partnership

Islamabad, July 9: Pakistan’s newly appointed High Commissioner to the United Kingdom, Tipu Usman, on Wednesday called on Federal Minister for Finance and Revenue Senator Muhammad Aurangzeb to discuss measures for strengthening economic and financial cooperation between Pakistan and the United Kingdom.

Welcoming the newly appointed envoy, Senator Aurangzeb expressed confidence that Tipu Usman’s diplomatic experience would help deepen bilateral economic engagement and advance Pakistan’s economic diplomacy objectives in the UK.

The meeting reviewed opportunities to enhance cooperation in trade, investment, banking, remittances, capital markets and financial services, with both sides emphasizing the need to further expand economic ties. The finance minister highlighted the government’s ongoing efforts to diversify financing sources, improve Pakistan’s access to international capital markets and strengthen the country’s financial architecture to support sustainable economic growth.

The two sides also discussed emerging trends in digital finance, including blockchain-based financial solutions, virtual assets and innovative instruments such as tokenization, as part of Pakistan’s broader digital transformation agenda.

During the meeting, High Commissioner Tipu Usman briefed the finance minister on prospects for engaging institutional investors and organizing future investment roadshows in collaboration with leading financial institutions in the United Kingdom.

Senator Aurangzeb underscored the significant contribution of the Pakistani diaspora in the UK to strengthening bilateral economic relations through remittances, investment, commercial engagement and the Roshan Digital Account initiative.

The meeting reaffirmed both sides’ commitment to promoting stronger Pakistan-UK economic cooperation and attracting greater investment to support Pakistan’s economic development.
