COAS Holds High-Level Engagements with Turkish Leadership to Strengthen Strategic Defence Cooperation

Islamabad, July 14: Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Defence Forces Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir held a series of high-level meetings with Türkiye’s political and military leadership during his official visit to the country, reaffirming the enduring strategic partnership and defence cooperation between Pakistan and Türkiye. Upon his arrival in Türkiye, the Field Marshal was accorded a warm welcome, underscoring the longstanding friendship and close historical relations between the two countries.

During the visit, Field Marshal Asim Munir called on Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and Minister of National Defence Yaşar Güler. The discussions focused on matters of mutual interest, regional security, and ways to strengthen strategic cooperation across defence and security sectors. Both sides reaffirmed their shared vision of expanding collaboration to address emerging regional and global security challenges.

At the Turkish General Staff Headquarters, the Field Marshal was presented with a Guard of Honour before holding detailed talks with Chief of the Turkish General Staff General Selçuk Bayraktaroğlu. The military leaders exchanged views on regional security dynamics, professional military cooperation, and opportunities to further enhance defence ties between the armed forces of the two countries.

In recognition of his distinguished services and significant contribution to strengthening Pakistan-Türkiye military relations, Field Marshal Asim Munir was awarded the Turkish Armed Forces Distinguished Service Medal by General Bayraktaroğlu.

The Army Chief also visited the Turkish Land Forces Headquarters, where he met Commander of the Turkish Land Forces General Metin Tokel to discuss professional cooperation.

As part of the visit, the Field Marshal paid homage to the founder of modern Türkiye, Mustafa Kemal Atatürk, by laying a floral wreath at Anıtkabir, acknowledging his visionary leadership and the deep-rooted historical bonds shared by Pakistan and Türkiye.
