Pakistan, Türkiye agree to deepen cooperation on women’s rights and social welfare
Islamabad, July 13: Pakistan and Türkiye have agreed to strengthen bilateral cooperation in promoting women’s rights, family welfare and social security through enhanced institutional collaboration and joint policy initiatives.
The understanding was reached during a meeting between Federal Minister for Law and Human Rights Azam Nazeer Tarar and Türkiye’s Minister for Family and Social Services, Mahinur Özdemir Göktaş, in Islamabad. The two sides discussed ways to protect the family system, advance the rights of women and children, and expand cooperation in social services, including initiatives in the digital sphere.
Following the meeting, Pakistan and Türkiye signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to enhance cooperation in the fields of family affairs, social services and social security. Both countries reaffirmed their commitment to implementing joint projects, exchanging expertise and strengthening institutional partnerships. Separately, Azam Nazeer Tarar met Jalila Allahverdiyeva, Head of the Administrative Division of the OIC Labour Centre from Azerbaijan. During the meeting, the minister emphasized that Islam guarantees women dignity, equality and fundamental rights, stressing the collective responsibility of the Muslim Ummah to safeguard these principles. He highlighted Pakistan’s efforts to advance women’s empowerment, noting their growing role in politics, parliament, the judiciary, education, business and other sectors. Both sides agreed to promote joint initiatives under the OIC framework to enhance women’s empowerment, expand social protection and strengthen capacity-building programmes
