Ishaq Dar Reaffirms Pakistan’s Commitment to Achieving Polio-Free Status
Islamabad, July 8: Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Senator Mohammad Ishaq Dar has reaffirmed the government’s unwavering commitment to eradicating polio from Pakistan, pledging continued efforts to eliminate the disease through strong political will and close collaboration with international partners.
He made these remarks during a meeting with a delegation of the Polio Oversight Board (POB), led by its Chair from Rotary International, Mike McGovern, in Islamabad.
The deputy prime minister appreciated the Board’s continued support for Pakistan’s polio eradication programme and emphasized that the government remains fully committed to achieving a polio-free Pakistan through coordinated national efforts and sustained international cooperation.
The Polio Oversight Board delegation acknowledged Pakistan’s commitment to the global fight against polio and also commended the country’s proactive diplomacy in promoting regional peace and its constructive role in addressing international humanitarian challenges.
Chairperson of the National Commission for Rights of the Child (NCRC) and head of the Pakistan Polio Programme, Ayesha Raza Farooq, along with senior officials from relevant ministries, attended the meeting.
The delegation comprised senior representatives from Rotary International, the Gates Foundation, the World Health Organization (WHO), Gavi, UNICEF, KSrelief and the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), reflecting the broad international partnership supporting Pakistan’s efforts to eliminate polio.
