Pakistan Calls for Restraint, Urges US and Iran to Honor Islamabad Peace Agreement

Islamabad, July 9: Pakistan urged all parties to exercise maximum restraint and adhere to the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) following renewed military exchanges between the United States and Iran that have heightened tensions in the Gulf region.

In a statement, the Foreign Office expressed deep concern over the latest escalation, warning that renewed conflict would undermine regional peace and stability.

“Pakistan calls on all parties to exercise restraint and refrain from any actions that may further undermine regional peace and stability,” the Foreign Office said.

The appeal came after the United States and Iran reportedly exchanged military strikes overnight following attacks on commercial vessels in the Strait of Hormuz, raising fears of a broader regional confrontation.

Pakistan reiterated the importance of implementing the Islamabad Memorandum of Understanding, a 14-point interim agreement reached last month between the United States and Iran to halt hostilities and ensure the safe passage of commercial shipping through the Strait of Hormuz.

The Foreign Office stressed that dialogue and diplomacy remain the only viable path to resolving disputes and maintaining lasting peace in the region.

The statement was issued hours after Iran announced that it had targeted US military sites in Bahrain and Kuwait in response to American strikes on Iranian targets, which Washington said were carried out following attacks on tankers in the Strait of Hormuz. Pakistan reaffirmed its commitment to supporting peaceful conflict resolution and emphasized that preserving regional stability is in the collective interest of all countries
