PM Reaffirms Pakistan’s Strong Commitment to United Nations and Multilateralism
Islamabad, July 7: Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif has reaffirmed Pakistan’s longstanding commitment to multilateralism and its unwavering support for the United Nations, emphasizing the organization’s central role in promoting global peace, security, and sustainable development. He expressed these views during a meeting with María Fernanda Espinosa, a candidate for the position of United Nations Secretary-General, who called on him in Islamabad. The prime minister expressed hope that the future leadership of the UN would continue to uphold the principles of the UN Charter, ensure the faithful implementation of UN Security Council resolutions, and promote respect for international law and international treaties. He stressed that these principles are essential for maintaining international peace and a rules-based global order. María Fernanda Espinosa thanked Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif for the warm reception and commended Pakistan’s constructive role in advancing regional peace and its longstanding, active contribution to the work of the United Nations.
