
Russia, China, Iran, Pakistan Hold Fourth Quartet Meeting on Afghanistan in New York
NEW YORK, Sept 25 — On the sidelines of the High-Level Week of the 80th Session of the UN General Assembly, the fourth meeting of the regional quartet on Afghanistan — comprising Russia, China, Iran, and Pakistan — was convened. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov attended the session.
The parties reviewed the current situation in Afghanistan, reaffirming their shared aspiration for the country to evolve into an independent, peaceful state, free from terrorism, conflict, and narcotics trade.
They highlighted the urgent need for constructive and pragmatic engagement by the international community with Kabul, in order to strengthen Afghan statehood and contribute to both regional and global stability.
A Joint Statement was issued at the conclusion of the quadrilateral meeting.
