Workshop Showcases Positive Outcomes of Adolescent-Friendly Spaces in Hunza and Nagar
HUNZA – The Aga Khan Rural Support Programme (AKRSP) organized a Community of Practice (COP) workshop in Hunza under the Global Affairs Canada (GAC)-funded Foundations for Health and Empowerment (F4HE) project, showcasing the impact of Adolescent-Friendly Spaces (AFS) in Hunza and Nagar.
The event brought together AFS Advisory Committees, Local Support Organizations (LSOs), adolescents, mentors, facilitators, parents, and caregivers to review achievements, challenges, and future directions for strengthening the initiative.
Participants shared that the AFS model had encouraged healthier lifestyles, improved communication with parents, and boosted self-confidence, with many adolescents reporting greater ease in public speaking, stress management, and conflict resolution. Parents also praised the programme for bringing noticeable positive changes in their children’s behaviour and confidence.
Addressing the workshop, Mr. Latif Baig, Deputy Director Education Nagar, thanked AKRSP for providing Early Childhood Development (ECD) materials to 14 schools and for establishing 15 Adolescent-Friendly Spaces in Nagar. He assured full departmental support and commended the confidence and leadership skills demonstrated by adolescents, particularly girls, during the event.
