48 Palestinians Killed in Israeli Attacks Across Gaza as Humanitarian Crisis Deepens

GAZA CITY, Sept. 27 — At least 48 Palestinians were killed on Saturday as Israeli forces intensified air and ground operations across the Gaza Strip, according to Gaza’s civil defense authority.

Civil defense spokesperson Mahmoud Basal said the casualties included civilians struck in residential homes and tents sheltering displaced families. Three people were also killed by Israeli gunfire outside an aid distribution center in the central Netzarim corridor.

The Israeli army confirmed striking more than 120 “terror targets,” saying its forces were advancing deeper into Gaza City with air raids, drone-dropped bombs, and artillery fire.

Humanitarian agencies warn the enclave’s health system is near collapse, with 400,000 residents in Gaza City facing severe shortages of food, medicine, and water. Local officials say water supplies meet less than a quarter of daily needs, forcing families to rely on unstable deliveries and wells.

Israel’s war on Gaza, now entering its third year since the October 7, 2023 Hamas-led attack on southern Israel, has killed nearly 66,000 Palestinians, according to Gaza health authorities, while devastating homes, markets, and infrastructure.
